Elijah Wood and Donald Sutherland Sign up for Syfy's 'Treasure Island' Frodo Baggins the pirate?

According to Hollywood Reporter, Donald Sutherland and Elijah Wood have recently landed roles in the new Syfy movie "Treasure Island." The classic tale, originally written by Robert Louis Stevenson, is being made in to a two-part TV network movie.

It will be filmed in Ireland and in Puerto Rico, and a release date is tentatively scheduled for early 2012.

Sutherland will reportedly play Flint and Elijah gets to play the role of Ben Gunn. Eddie Izzard has been cast to play Long John Silver.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Toby Regbo, Phillip Glenister, Rupert-Penry-Jones, David Harewood and Keith Allen are also part of the cast.

Robert Halmi Sr. of RHI Entertainment; Alan Moloney for Parallel Films; Mark Grenside for MNG Films; Melanie Stokes and Anne Brogan for Kindle Entertainment; and Annie Harrison-Baxter for Sky serve as executive producers.

Elijah Wood is creating a real name for himself by taking on these unique characters and making them awesome on the screen - think his "Hobbit" role. Donald Sutherland also does excellent work. Will their pairing be a sure-fire award winner during the 2013 season?

In addition to his role in the Starz Original mini-series "Pillars of the Earth," Sutherland has five movies that he recently finished filming - all of which are set for 2011 release, including "Sofia," "Horrible Bosses," "The Eagle," "The Mechanic" and "Man on the Train." He’s a busy man!

Elijah has a voice part in "Happy Feet II" coming out in 2011. He is also working on "Tron" for TV and on Peter Jackson's new two-movie installment of "The Hobbit."
